Back to where it all began

Ben and I met in Ithaca at Cornell University in 2000 during my first year of veterinary school. Because the class of 2005 is the best class ever to have come through the vet school, we go back at least every 5 years for Reunion. While upstate does hold a special place in our hearts, the main draw here is the friends (really, family) that are still here. We get together to drink beer, reminisce, laugh and watch our kids play at wholesome family-friendly activities.

Yet again, blowing stuff up. That may be the new blog name as it seems to be the theme of the summer. Uncle Scotty’s is the BEST.

But really, watching your kids play with your friends’ kids (as we’ve gotten to do so many times this summer) actually does bring a very special joy.

I can’t wait to see what kind of trouble they get into in the future.

In the spring of this year Morgan did a school project and speech on Susan B Anthony so we managed to squeeze in a little culture in between blowing stuff up.

Prior to this mainland adventure my kids had never been in a lake–we’ve hit quite a few along the way and I kept telling the kids how fun jet skis would be but for a number of reasons we had trouble working it out. On this leg we finally managed to rent jet skis on Keuka which I have no pictures of because I WAS TOO BUSY HAVING FUN. Super. Duper. Awesome.

Also Super Duper Awesome was our next stop to visit Dr WHO on Lake Skaneateles.

It turns out there’s very little I enjoy more than watching my family bounce around like rag dolls behind a high speed boat. Like laugh-till-I-cry kind of fun.

And then we headed down to Ithaca to visit the school–complete with renovations that, back in my day, would have assured that I never actually left the school. Place to study and a place to sleep without having to go out in the snow? DONE.

We saw dead things in the Gross Anatomy lab and visited with Dr Howard Evans–95 years young and still shaping young minds.

And after looking at dead stuff of course we needed ice cream at the dairy bar with KEK.

We finished off our upstate tour at the home of our little friend Karyn who was gracious enough to host a BBQ so full of 2005ers that we didn’t even get pictures of all of them.

Rest assured for those we missed seeing–we’ll be back in 2 years for Reunion 2020 and YOU’D BETTER BE THERE.
