Swan song

Today, we bid adieu to our beloved Mac. Leaving New Jersey, it was a bittersweet goodbye as we’ve had such an amazing summer and really fell in love with RVing. Driving through Newark and very close to NYC on our way to Peekskill, NY for the return…we really could not get out of a large vehicle fast enough. Nothing makes you long for your future Fiat like navigating tolls, traffic and low clearance bridges.

We rented Mac sight-unseen from thousands of miles away and had no other option for our one-way trip. Our first night pulling out of the Motel 6/crack den we knew we were crazy bordering on certifiably insane. I told Ben we were the Griswolds, he insisted we were actually cousin Eddie. And true to his word, he’s used the “shitter’s full” line at least 50 times since.

He may not be pretty, but Mac got us from one end of the country to the other safely and without major incident. He helped us have what we all consider to be the best summer of our lives and we’re hugely grateful for that.

For those of you contemplating an RV trip, a few words:

DO IT.

No, really. Stop thinking. Make the time. Make the reservation. Round-trip rental RV’s are so popular you’ll have your pick of the litter. The freedom, the flexibility, the underrated convenience of having your house with you everywhere you go. It is as awesome as you think and probably even more. Make sure you stop for the sunsets, make the campfire, bring the bikes. When you’re ready for your trip, email me and I’ll be happy to fill you in with more tips but so many of you mentioned it was something you’d considered doing so hear me now and believe me later. I cannot stress this enough.

DO. IT.
