I thought I’d share a little about the logistics of RV living, now that we’re into our third week. We’ve learned some things, had some ups and downs but I can’t lie–this is as awesome as we hoped it would be. You should seriously do it.

We rented at 25′ class C RV online but when you’re doing a cross country one way trip pickins is slim. There was one. He is Mack. I refer to him as the 70 year old man with lots of creaks and groans but still some good miles left in him. Let’s hope at least another 6,000 miles…
We stocked up first thing in Redwood City (and were very lucky to have been pre-stocked by the amazing Tetley’s. The next time you plan a trip, just go stay with the Tetley’s. They will HOOK. YOU. UP.) We have to make occasional grocery stops but the fridge is tiiiiny so no Costco trips. We of course have all the fixings for s’mores readily available. We do have some standards.

The shower is a dirty laundry receptacle because everywhere we stay has a shower. And when you’re camping and traveling it’s a bit of a requisite to be dirty. We have rules to follow.
The toilet: No. NoNoNo. We have improvised many a pit stop on the side of a country road but we do NOT use the RV potty because after raising kids for 9 years I have had enough of human excrement. NO.
We take turns driving which was intimidating at first but is really not too bad if you’ve ever driven a u-haul or say a pick up truck in Texas. On board entertainment consists of workbooks (have to stay sharp for new schools in the fall), books, coloring, games, lots and lots of music. SO MUCH POP MUSIC. God help me.

Mishaps: multiple electrical issues, some of which have been resolved and others we have just chosen to ignore. Once we accidentally left the exterior storage compartment open and littered the road with our bike helmets and picnic basket. But it was Northern California so of course other people were kind enough to stop and clean up after us. No losses. Also, this happened:

Which sucked cause that is not the way a bike rack is supposed to look. Grateful there was no ground scraping or totaling of anyone else’s car when 4 bikes + rack fell off the back. Which we definitely would not have noticed. Bike rack has since been replaced and we are back in business.
I do have 2 product promos to share with you if you’re a fellow traveler. I have been a BIG fan of packing cubes for years (Thanks again Mrs Tetley) and for this trip they are imperative because now our clothes look like this:
Which is all the clothing Morgan and I own.
And the second is the Mifold booster seat. Full disclosure, there is apparently just no super safe way to ride in an RV (I read this many times) but there are times that we’re renting/borrowing a car that a booster seat comes in handy–enter the tiny Mifold booster which fits in a backpack and is sooooo much easier to transport. If you have a kid still small enough for a booster and you are planning a trip pick up this bad boy on Amazon or at Target. And then thank me.

And of course we have had at least a little time to embellish our “home” although there will likely be more decorating in the future. On the dash we have Lula the Hula girl (bobbles, clearly) and on the mirror a charm from a temple in Japan for safe travels.
On the fridge we have an original drawing from Quinn Pulver who Morgan now classifies as a “professional artist”.

And you know I am a big fan of twinkle lights so we’ve done up the inside areas of Mack a bit to add a little ambience.

This is the boys’ room AKA the eagle’s nest:

And this is the girls’ room:

Of course. ❤️
So long story short RVing is awesome and life is so much more simple when you drive your house and all your belongings everywhere you go. And even if you don’t want to immigrate to a tiny island and sell all your stuff and then drive 6,000 miles across the country (although I can’t understand why not), consider taking an extended RV trip with your family. This is serious fun and full of adventure and I really feel like everyone should do it at least once. Making memories, people. Someday, SOMEDAY, our children will thank us.

Looks great!
